Insurance & excess, in plain terms
Advanced Car Hire is not an insurance company, so your rental works on an excess waiver: if you follow the rental terms, we waive our right to charge you for covered damage above an agreed excess amount. Here is exactly how it works.
Included in every rate
Every rental includes third-party, theft and fire cover plus our Comfort Cover. Your liability for covered damage to the vehicle is limited to a standard excess of N$45,000.
Comfort Cover also includes a tyre & glass waiver at no extra cost: the first windscreen damage and up to two damaged tyres are covered, because gravel roads make those the two most common claims in Namibia.
N$449 per day
Upgrade to Premium Cover and your excess for covered damage drops to zero. Premium additionally includes rollover accidents (negligence and tow-in costs excluded), one damaged rim and undercarriage damage outside the restricted areas listed in the terms.
Select it in the booking engine and the exact amount is added to your total before you confirm, N$449 per day, no surprises later.
Some things are never covered under either option: sandblasting, water damage, overheating, negligence, night driving, forbidden roads and recovery costs after accidents. A pre-authorisation deposit is required at collection on a valid credit card: N$15,000 in Namibia and N$25,000 outside Namibia. Yes, a 4x4 is strongly recommended. Around 90% of Namibia's roads are gravel, and the high clearance, all-terrain tyres and low-range gearing of a proper 4x4 make long gravel distances safer and far more comfortable, with access to places like Sossusvlei's 4x4-only final stretch that a normal car cannot reach.
Our published rack rates run from N$1,015 per day (Suzuki Jimny, low season, 15+ days) to N$4,900 per day (Luxury Cruiser camper, peak season). A Toyota Hilux double cab starts at N$1,647 per day. Yes. Cross-border travel to Botswana, South Africa, Zimbabwe, Mozambique and Malawi is supported, tell us your route when you book and we prepare the letter of authority and certified vehicle documents for a flat N$100 documentation fee. Our border-crossing guide lists what you need at each border.
You must be at least 18 and have held a valid driver's licence for more than one year. The minimum rental period is 6 days, and kilometres are unlimited on every hire.

Please note before booking
Cancellations 14 to 8 days before arrival are charged at 50% of the total confirmed amount; cancellations 7 days or less before arrival, or once you have arrived at our offices, are charged at 100%. Booked extras not cancelled at least 7 business days before arrival will be charged in full.
All extras need to be pre-booked to guarantee availability on your travel dates.
All bookings are subject to a one-time N$500 cleaning fee.
All vehicles include one battery. Dual batteries are available on request only and are used at your own risk.
